With the increasing demand for electric vehicles, Tata Motors recently launched its first electric hatchback Tata Tiago EV in the Indian market. It is currently the cheapest electric car ever in India that offers a range of up to 300 km on a single full charge. Also, it is the only electric hatchback on sale to date in India. With a starting price of Rs 8.49 lakh, it is India’s most affordable electric car. The company has already started taking bookings of the vehicle from October 2022 onwards and its delivery will begin in January 2023 onwards.

Design
The design of the Tata Tiago EV is similar to the regular version of the car except for a few cosmetic changes. The company has added some blue elements on the exterior of the EV version to give it a different look from the petrol version of the car. It gets a close-off grille with a blue-coloured bottom line connecting the headlights and the EV logo. Apart from this, the front also gets new projector headlamps and bumper-integrated DRLs, which give it a different look from the petrol variant.
There are also blue accents on the alloy wheels to highlight the EV. Like other Tata EVs, this one also comes in Tata’s EV-specific signature teal blue colour which we have already seen on the Nexon EV and Tigor EV. The interior is almost the same as the regular Tiago with some blue accents on the AC vents and on the dashboard. The cabin looks extremely premium with plush leatherette upholstery.
Motor Performance, Battery and Range
Tata Tiago EV 2023 also comes with Ziptron technology. This is the latest technology developed by Tata Motors which uses a 3-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor with a peak output of 114nm. The Tiago EV comes with two battery pack options, a 19.2kWh battery and a 24kWh option. The 19.2kWh battery pack has a claimed range of 250km by MIDC. The 24kWh battery pack on the other hand has an MIDC claimed range of 315km.
As far as the motor is concerned, the 19.2kWh battery pack comes with a 45kWh motor that produces 105Nm of torque. While the 24kWh battery pack comes with a 55kWh motor that makes 114Nm of torque. The company claims that the Tiago EV can do 0-60kmph in just 5.7 seconds in sports mode, making it one of the fastest hatchbacks in India.
Tata is also offering four charging options in its new Electric hatchback. Two normal chargers and two fast charger options. Common chargers include a 15A socket charger and a 3.3kW AC charger. Fast charging options include a 7.2kW AC home charger capable of fully charging the battery in just 3 hours and 36 minutes. And a DC fast charger that is capable of charging from 0 to 80% in just 57 minutes. The company provides an 8-year/1,60,000 km warranty on its battery pack and motor.

Features
Coming to the features, Tata Tiago Electric comes with a long list of features. It comes with a 7-inch Harman infotainment system with 8 speakers, auto climate control, reverse parking camera, digital instrument cluster, keyless entry and sports driving mode. It also has the ZConnect app (by iRA) feature which includes 30+ connect features to know about the health, safety and more of the car. Users can also control the ZConnect app from their smartwatches. Apart from this, safety features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and corner stability control. I-TPMS. hill ascent assist and hill descent assist. It also has a rear crash-compatible structure for better safety.
Tata Tiago EV 2023 Price and Variants
Tiago EV price starts at Rs 8.48 Lakh and goes up to Rs 11.79 Lakh (ex-showroom). It is priced so aggressively that the Tiago EV is the cheapest and only EV hatchback in India so far. However, this is the starting price which is reserved for the first 10,000 bookings only. The bookings for Tata Tiago EV have already been started and deliveries will start in January 2023. It is available in five variants XE, XT, XZ, XZ+ and XZ+ Tech Lux.
